-BATV Staff-

BATV’s day-to-day operations are managed by a professional staff of individuals who believe communication is crucial to a thriving community.  This enthusiastic group of individuals has varied skill sets and is eager to help you identify and exceed your community media related goals.  Please stop by and say hello.  We look forward to meeting you.

Paul Abrego: Production & Facilities Coordinator

Picture
Paul Abrego has been involved in access television production since 1998 and has been at BATV since 2002. He attended both the University of Hawaii at Manoa where he double-majored in surfing and hiking and Emerson College where he enjoyed mussing the perfect hair of broadcast journalism students whilst studying in the film and audio departments. A former FCC licensed radio disc jockey, Paul is a certified audiophile as well as a film junky, although he has stopped collecting DVD's as he now believes they are a waste of money as they will inevitably be obsolete. However, he continues to purchase compact music discs and supporting local record stores. This irony is not lost on him. He is happiest making his young daughter laugh at his imitations- especially those of Mr. T and of his co-workers. Other things he enjoys are (in no particular order): rainbows, sunsets, long walks on the beach, puppies, kittens and gore movies.

Nancy Albertson: Assistant Executive Director

Picture
Nancy has worked in the television/video field since 2002. Her interest in video production began at Shawsheen Valley Technical High School, where she was granted the opportunity to study in the school's audio/visual department. Nancy was hired as a part-time Production Assistant at BATV in her senior year of high school and continued to work at the station throughout college. She studied Video & Radio Production at the New England Institute of Technology in Rhode Island and obtained a BS in Digital Film & Video production from The New England Institute of Art.
Over the course of nine years, Nancy has held three different full-time positions at BATV before becoming the Assistant Executive Director: Youth Coordinator (2010-2012), Programming Coordinator (2012-2015) and a short stint as Media Systems Coordinator (2015-2016). Her background also includes full-time positions at WCAC-TV in Wellesley and Winchester Community Access & Media, freelancing as a videographer/editor, production assistant, and assistant camera operator, and working as a teaching assistant for the New York Film Academy.
Nancy currently lives in Peabody, Massachusetts with her husband, son, and a very fluffy, four-legged feline named Marilyn. She loves just about any form of comedy (television/film/stand-up/improv) and truly believes laughter is the best medicine. Nancy also enjoys belly dancing, candlepin bowling, hula hooping, watching cheesy horror films, collecting spoons, laughing and making other people laugh.

        Faith Brodi: Youth Coordinator
Faith joined Enrichment Programs at BATV in the fourth grade, and partook in Youth Video Clubs until her high school years at BMHS. Being the Youth Coordinator, she is happy to have made it full circle!

Currently, Faith is finishing her senior year at UMass Lowell-- where she will obtain her Bachelor’s Degree in English-- and has already earned an Associate’s Degree in Psychology at Middlesex Community College. Faith is also a member of the National Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS), and Tri-M Music Honor Society.

When not at the TV station, she enjoys performing in community theatre, Uechi Ryu Karate as a second degree black belt, writing/performing music, and RPG tabletop games such as Dungeons & Dragons. Every October at BATV, Faith runs GRIN-- an annual haunted house for late teens and adults-- through her special FX makeup business BrodiFx. She truly enjoys all things spooky!

            Kayla Creamer: Programming Coordinator
Kayla first became involved with community media in 2009 when she interned at Amherst Community Television during her senior year at UMass Amherst.  She graduated from UMass with a B.A. in Communications, but originally studied to become a veterinarian.  Things didn’t go quite as planned and she decided to pursue a career in her second love: television production.

Prior to becoming the Program Coordinator at BATV, Kayla spent five years at Amherst Media as the Government Access Coordinator and then as the Director of Programming.  She has extensive experience in studio and field production and was heavily involved in Amherst Media’s digitization and archive project.  Kayla also works as a freelance photographer and videographer throughout the region, shooting mainly weddings and events.

Kayla’s love for animals still continues despite her change in career path.  She has two Puerto Rican rescue dogs, Harvey and Tedy, a senior cat named Felix, and two guinea pigs named Lucy and Ethel.  In her spare time, Kayla also enjoys playing her guitar, cheering on the Patriots, binge watching her favorite TV shows, and listening to a wide variety of musical genres.

 Samuel Schauerman: Executive Director

Picture
Sam received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism and Telecommunications from the University of Wyoming and was first exposed to access television as a volunteer at Denver Community Television in Denver, Colorado. Leaving his Rocky Mountain roots behind, Sam relocated to New England in 1991 where he first became employed in access television. Sam enjoys a host of outdoor activities, but his greatest joy comes from spending time with his wife and two sons.

Karen Sennott
: Outreach Coordinator

Picture
Karen began working in Access Television in 2000 after 15 years in the Cable Television Industry. During her free time, she enjoys just about any activity that involves being in the outdoors, especially hiking, swimming and mountain climbing. She’s a huge fan of the Mass State Parks (particularly Great Brook) and an avid MVLC library patron.

Karen grew up on the South Shore, graduated from the University of Massachusetts School of Business Administration in Amherst and currently lives on the Venice of America.

                Tara Splingaerd: Content Producer
After living all over North America, and exploring all sorts of career possibilities for *cough* years, Tara has finally found her
passion in video production. She comes to BATV from Chelmsford Telemedia, where she fell in in love with hyperlocal production. She believes that Cable Access is an invaluable resource for the community to learn how to use video technology to communicate
ideas, information, and passions.

Outside of work, Tara enjoys embarrassing her two daughters in public, growing veggies, binge-watching lynda.com tutorials, refinishing furniture, trying new foods, and not vacuuming.

Tara is always looking for another event, promo, or show to produce, so if you have a passion, send her an email and she’ll be
right over with her camera. As the BATV newbie, Tara welcomes you to stop by and introduce yourself, just for fun!

             Casper Stavro: Youth/Production Assistant
Casper has been involved in BATV’s youth programs since 2010, and over the years, has developed a passion for acting and video production. They graduated in Nashoba Valley Technical High School’s class of 2017, where they studied TV broadcasting as well as graphic design. As a youth assistant at BATV, they hope to give the kids of Billerica the same inspiring experience they had when they were a part of the youth groups themself.

In their spare time, Casper enjoys writing and playing guitar. One day, they hope to combine their love for music with their passion for film and produce music videos for a band of their own.

Jamie Learned: Government Access Coordinator/Production Assistant
Jamie has been involved with BATV for many years, starting in middle school working on some school projects. These early year projects are what made him want to go into film, hopefully someday to be involved on larger scale than school pieces.  He graduated Innovation Academy Charter School in the class of 2017. He loves to learn all he can about film and theatre, in the hopes of directing down the road.
