It's a Bird! It's a plane! It's Superheroes on the Screen at BATV!

ICYMI: April Vacation at BATV was a smash hit, and we aren't just talking about epic on screen battles with villains! Billerica students worked with Faith Brodi & George Kalabokis of our Youth Programs Department to film & edit two epic superhero trailers. One called "Thoughts of Fire" and the other, "Air Marshal vs. Four Swords" will be premiering this Friday. Both trailers will be available to watch on our channels and social media.

We are currently accepting submissions for an art exhibit celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community this upcoming June. No matter your experience level or how you identify, we encourage anyone inspired by the LGBTQIA+ community to submit their work.
Artist Guidelines:
2D Art Max size: 18 x 24 Matted or Framed. Also accepting 3D artwork, digital and multimedia works.

A whole premiere dedicated to celebrating local film, writing, and art… it couldn’t get more epic than that! On Monday, April 3rd, over 50 people walked the BATV red carpet and attended the Howe Epic! Multimedia Contest premiere.

Though we’ve done similar contests in the past three years such as Remotely Epic and Art the New Year, April 3rd 2023 marked the first ever in-person Howe Epic! Premiere. This contest had 46 entries (39 contestants total), and six grand-prize winners. We saw some new faces, and some returning creators from the previous contests such as Remotely Epic 2020/2021, and Art the New Year 2021. We’ve had entries from a wide range of schools such as the Marshall, Locke, Innovation Academy, BMHS, and the Shawsheen Tech.

This contest had three categories to submit to: film, writing, and art. Each category was split into two age groups: the Junior group (grades 4-7), and the Senior group (grades 8-12).
Each of the six winners received a basket full of prizes!

I’d like to thank our diverse panel of judges who took the time to look through all of these entries and submit their scores, and those who helped. A HUGE thank you to all of our contestants this year… You all put the epic in Howe Epic!

Keep an eye out for the Howe Epic! 2023 page which will go live on our website in a week or two; here, you will be able to take a look at every piece that was submitted to the contest so you can admire everyone’s wonderful creations.

I was told by several of the judges that this was one of the hardest contests to judge, because of all of the fantastic submissions. Several of these categories were neck-and-neck, almost resulting in ties. To all of the contestants: give yourselves a pat on the back, and know that regardless of who walked away with a prize, you all have created something to be incredibly proud of. I urge you, don’t ever stop creating. We’ll see you again next year!
