Curbside Service for Field Gear
Beginning Wednesday, June 24, BATV members will have the opportunity to check out field production equipment. At this time, BATV will be limiting the amount of gear for field use so we have made up some simple camcorder kits that we feel will assist members to achieve their field production needs. If you would like to reserve a kit, please email your request to [email protected]. You will receive correspondence with specific directions about picking up your equipment. For everyone’s safety, we ask that you comply with all directions for pick up and return of equipment and adhere to the scheduled pick up and return days and times. We will continue to assist with productions utilizing web conferencing apps, so if you have ideas for programming, don’t hesitate reaching out to staff. We will keep you posted as other resources become available, but for the safety of all, it will be a cautious process. We look forward to seeing all our members in the near future.

Twice a year, Billerica Town Meetings are cablecast live into the homes of Billerica residents allowing them to stay informed about decisions that impact their lives. For the first time in history, the upcoming Town Meeting will be conducted using web conferencing, but rest assured, it will be cablecast in its entirety by Billerica Access Television, Inc. (BATV). Moreover, the future of the historic Howe School will be determined as Town Meeting Representatives will cast votes on Article 22 “To Fund Addition To and Remodeling of Howe School” and Article 27 “Howe School Lease.” We respectfully ask that you support Articles 22 and 27.
The historic Howe School is located north of town center and has remained vacant for the past 20+ years. While there have been efforts to revitalize the historic building, none have come to fruition. The Town has already invested time and funds toward this unique restoration project. Moreover, BATV has become vested in this worthwhile project with no guarantee of a subsequent lease. Unfortunately, BATV does not have the luxury of investing more time as its current lease terminates September 30, 2022. If Articles 22 and 27 fail at the upcoming Spring Town Meeting, BATV will need to identify alternative plans for its home. While BATV is more commonly known for collaborating with citizens and organizations to create local cable programming of interest and importance to the community, it provides many other services including educational programs for all ages, meeting and gathering space, video production assistance, equipment lending, and collaborations with schools, organizations, businesses, and much more. Should BATV be fortunate enough to be awarded the opportunity to lease the restored Howe School, its services could become even more robust. The proposed floor plans for the Howe project include administrative and content creation spaces as well as ample space for general public use. There is also a plan to display some of the historic Town artifacts that the Town possesses. If this project is successful, BATV is hopeful to regularly host community cultural events that would include the likes of film screenings, poetry slams, story-telling competitions, small concerts and more. BATV has been providing valuable services for the community since 1987 and is a well regarded non-profit organization. BATV has the resources to partner with the Town of Billerica to make this rare opportunity a reality. Most recently, the Town, with the assistance of BATV, renewed two cable contracts that positioned the Town and BATV in such a way to minimize current threats to PEG access television. With your support, this project will give a new and vibrant life to the historic Howe School and provide the Billerica community with a state of the art, multi-use media center. Should you have any questions, please contact BATV Executive Director Sam Schauerman at 978.663.2284 or [email protected]. We ask for your support and your “yes” vote on Articles 22 and 27 to make this unique project a reality. |
