Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the BATV Board of Directors has postponed the 2022 Annual Meeting of the Billerica Access Television, Inc. Membership. However, elections for the BATV Board of Directors will still occur.
At this time, the BATV Election Committee welcomes nominations for one Board of Director position to be elected by the membership. If you or someone you know has the desire to fill the three-year term, please take notice. As per BATV’s By-Laws, the Board of Directors shall have general power to control and manage the affairs and property of the Corporation, and shall have full power, by majority vote, to adopt rules and regulations governing the action of the Board of Directors and shall have full authority with respect to the distribution and payment of monies received by the Corporation from time to time . . . Furthermore, and among other tasks, board members shall (as per BATV, Inc. Policy Statement of Responsibilities for Individual Board Members):
1. All nominations shall be made in writing and submitted electronically to the BATV Election Committee. Please email your nomination to [email protected] and enter “Nomination” on the subject line. 2. As per the BATV By-Laws Article IV, Section 6, “As a rule, no individual under the age of eighteen (18) shall serve as a member of the Board of Directors as per Massachusetts General Law Chapter 231, Section 85O.” 3. Independent nominations may be made by any member in good standing. 4. Your nominee need not be a BATV member, but must live in, or be affiliated with an organization, school, or business that serves Billerica. 5. Your nomination must include the nominee’s bio (not to exceed 300 words) to be posted publicly. Bios will be posted as presented (please proof your submittal). 6. The BATV Election Committee must receive your nomination and nominee’s bio before 5:00 p.m., January 31, 2022. Nominations without bios will not be accepted. If you would like more information regarding board member responsibilities, please contact BATV Executive Director Nancy Albertson at [email protected]. Happy New Year -
I hope this message finds you well. As you may know, Billerica Access Television (BATV) has for several years been discussing with the Town the idea of renovating a historic local landmark; the end result being the future home for BATV. In July of 2021, the historic Howe School became a construction site. The substantial completion date is scheduled for July 2022, with BATV tentatively moving into its new home in September 2022. As you might suspect, this is an exciting time for the BATV community; a time of tremendous opportunity. And at this time, BATV is well positioned to assess and adjust its operations for continued success. With all the opportunity that lies ahead for BATV, it’s my belief the time is right for BATV to name a new BATV Executive Director; a leader that will help put finishing touches on BATV’s new home, shaping its “personality”, endorsing BATV’s future vision, operations, and structure, and most of all, carrying the excitement and momentum well into the future. Therefore, my last day as BATV’s Executive Director will be Friday, January 14. At that time, BATV Assistant Executive Director Nancy Albertson will begin her new role as acting Executive Director. I will remain a BATV employee, but in a different role, simply assisting with the Howe project and supporting the Executive Director. Concurrently, the BATV Board of Directors will perform its due diligence and evaluate the executive director position. My final day as a BATV employee will coincide with the substantial completion of the Howe project (estimated to be mid-July 2022) or possibly following the physical move (mid-September 2022). Some may question why I would choose to leave during such exciting times for BATV. First and foremost, I’ll still be around for a while; I’m just taking on a new role! More importantly, BATV currently finds itself with a strong foundation to build upon and I truly believe it’s an opportune time for BATV to create a new vision for its future. Constructive changes occurring now will permit the momentum to keep growing long after BATV’s physical move to the Howe, and well beyond 2022. As for my plans after BATV, there’s nothing definite. However, I will likely spend time between New England and Montana, enjoy time with my family, and contemplate my next chapter. In the meantime, please join me in welcoming Nancy Albertson in her new role! Sincerely, Sam Schauerman It is with great excitement that BATV looks forward to 2022. It’s been a long time in the making, but we can now confirm that next fall, BATV will become the next tenant, caretaker and a part of the ongoing history of the Billerica landmark known as the Howe School. We are thrilled to soon be relocating to the Howe and welcoming our membership and the entire community to upcoming events and activities in our new home. For those of us who for years have been working on this project were often reminded, it’s a marathon, not a sprint; at last, the finish line is in sight! We appreciate your patience and understanding to our often-elusive responses to your inquiries!
Along with relocating to a new, spacious facility, we look forward to getting back to some sort of normalcy and being able to safely offer classes, workshops, and special and cultural events. We’ll also continue to bring you valuable community content such as government meetings, senior programs, community events, youth programs, and so much more! Please join us and take part in all the excitement that 2022 has in store for BATV! CLICK HERE to become a BATV member or to renew your membership online for 2022. |
